Women's League Carolina Dynamo The Carolina Dynamo announced Art Rex as the Carolina Dynamo women’s head coach for the 2008 season. “We are extremely excited to bring back our W-League team this season especially with such a highly recommended and experienced coach such as Art”, says Dynamo GM, Scott Zapko. “Art has the contacts, knowledge and passion to lead our W-League team into a new era,” Zapko goes onto add.
Art comes to the Dynamo with 20 years NCAA Division I coaching experience, 17 years as a Head Coach and is a 2007 Appalachian Athletic Hall of Fame inductee. While the Men’s Head Coach at Appalachian State, Art’s squads won eight Southern Conference Championships. Art was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year on three different occasions. Art currently serves as the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association’s (NCYSA) Vice President of State Select (ODP) and Coaching Education. Rex is also a member of the NCYSA and USSF Coaching Education Staff where he is a State and National License Instructor and evaluator.
Art’s playing career is also most impressive; he is a former Professional soccer player with the Pittsburgh Spirit (Major Indoor Soccer League) and the Connecticut Yankees of the American Soccer League. Prior to becoming a professional player, Art was a three-time All-American at Slippery Rock University, where he was also inducted into the Slippery Rock Hall of Fame as the career record setter for goals in a career, season and game. While at Slippery Rock, Rex was also name to the All PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) four times.

FL: The Carolina Dynamo were recently recognized and inducted to the
United Soccer Leagues Hall of Fame for its longstanding USL membership.
"We have established 10 years as a benchmark for recognition”,
said USL President and founder Francisco Marcos. “Reaching that
plateau is an outstanding achievement in this business and it is important
to recognize these clubs and individuals for their dedication and ability
to preserve numerous hardships, which no person or club is exempt from.”
“We have wanted to establish a USL Hall of Fame for several years
and I am excited to finally be able to honor some of the organizations
who have helped make the USL a success over the years. Recording history
of the sport is an important part of established soccer as a significant
member of the North American sports landscape. Documenting our own history
will assist the overall effort of recognizing the long-standing presence
of soccer in North America as well as the prominent figures within the
sport.” Franchises inducted include the Dynamo, the Albuquerque
Geckos, Austin Lone Stars, Charleston Battery, Charlotte Eagles, Cocoa
Expos, Connecticut Wolves, El Paso Patriots, Nashville Metros, Richmond
Kickers, Texas Spurs and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
In addition, Carolina
Dynamo owner Neil Macpherson and General Manager/Head Coach Joe Brown
lead a group of 11 individuals recently inducted to the United Soccer
Leagues Hall of Fame under the category of Builders. The Builders category
honors individuals who have forged and built the USL and the sport of
soccer in North America.
2002
The club's
new Macpherson Stadium, named in honor of Macpherson's father, was unveiled
in 2002.
1996-2001
In 1996,
the club changed to a more regional focus and changed its name to Carolina,
entered the Select League (Third Division) and posted a 15-3 record.
The Dynamo upset the A-League's New York Fever, 1-0, in the Second Round
of the U.S. Open Cup before falling to DC United in the Quarterfinals.
The following year, the club moved up again to the newly-added A-League
and saw immediate success, reaching the A-League final, where it fell
to the Milwaukee Rampage 2-1 via a shootout. The Dynamo took 1998 to
focus on the construction of a new stadium and returned as a member
of the D3 Pro League in 1999. In their first year back the Dynamo upset
the A-League's Orange County Zodiac 2-0 in the Second Round of the U.S.
Open Cup before falling to the Columbus Crew in the Third Round.
1995
The team
moved up to the Pro League (Third Division) in 1995, where it missed
the postseason for the first time despite a winning record.
1993
The Dynamo
joined the USL system in 1993 as the Greensboro Dynamo, playing their
home games at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Greensboro's
debut in the USL was made memorable as the team won league titles in
each of its first two seasons, becoming just the second outdoor team
to win back-to-back league titles.
1992
The Dynamo actually began as an amateur club in 1992 and was a southeast
regional finalist in that years Open Cup tournament. The club's owner,
Neil Macpherson was a shareholder in England's Nottingham Forest Club,
while his father was a past chairman of the team. Due to the interest
of his family, the Dynamo's logo resembles Nottingham Forest's.
