Dynamo Open Cup Opponent Announced

Chicago, IL: Today US Soccer Announced the 1st Round & 2nd Round pairings for the 99th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Dynamo drew the Aegean Hawks (USASA) on the road for a 1st round match up on Tuesday, May 15th. Kick-off is 7:30 PM at Maryland Soccerplex Stadium. Since the Tournament was completely restructured for the 2012 Cup, the Dynamo qualified based on last years success, by winning the PDL’s South Atlantic Division. The bidding process changed this year, to a blind draw. Should the Dynamo beat the Hawks, we will then travel to Richmond to ace the Kickers (USL Pro) in the 2nd round on Tuesday, May 22nd. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM. The winner of that match will face an MLS opponent on May 29th. The time and location is yet TBD.

2012 Schedule Released

Today the 2012 Carolina Dynamo schedule was released from USL Headquarters in Tampa, FL. The Dynamo open the season at home on Saturday, May 12 with a special 6:00 kick-off time. The Dynamos home schedule includes six Saturday home dates, one Friday, and one Tuesday home game. The Dynamo have already qualified for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and are currently awaiting their draw. The Open Cup having been restructured for 2012 will open on Tuesday, May 15th and will feature all US based MLS teams, who will enter the Tournament in the 3rd round.

Two expansion franchises (Palmetto Bantams & The Southern WV King’s Warriors) join the Nashville Metros as new entries into the South Atlantic Division. Other returning clubs including your 2011 South Atlantic Division Champions, Dynamo include: Fredericksburg, Northern Virginia, Real Maryland, Virginia Beach & West Virginia.

The PDL will feature 73 teams in four geographic conferences and nine divisions. The Eastern Conference features three divisions while the Southern, Central and Western Conferences feature two divisions each. PDL clubs will play 16-game schedules in 2012, eight home and eight away.

Reserve Team Announced

The goal of the Carolina Dynamo Reserve team is to identify future Dynamo Sr. Team players, while filling the gap between youth soccer, and the next level of competition (PDL), while offering a comprehensive training program. 2012 Try-Out Date Set

The Carolina Dynamo announced open try-outs for their 2012 PDL Team. This will be the only open try-out for the team. Any player interested in playing for the Dynamo should attend. All prospective players should go to the try-out tab on the top of the website to fill out the appropriate paperwork.

Four Dynamo Players Selected in MLS Supplemental Draft

Today four former Dynamo players were selected as part of Major League Soccer’s Supplemental Draft held at MLS headquarters in New York, NY. The Supplemental Draft serves as rounds three though six of the 2012 MLS Draft. Both Kirk Urso (UNC Chapel Hill) & Karo Okiomah (High Point) went in the 1^st round, Urso as the 10^th pick to the Columbus Crew, and Okiomah as the 12^th pick to the Houston Dynamo. Michael Volk (Virginia) was selected in the 2^nd round by the NY Red Bull as the 12^th selection. Daniel Roberts (UNC Wilmington) was selected in the 4^th round also by the Houston Dynamo as the 18^th pick.

Including these four players the Dynamo have had 46 players drafted by Major League Soccer since joining the PDL back in 2004, and 65 drafted since Major League Soccer’s 1996 inaugural year.

Kirk Urso (Dynamo 2008-09, North Carolina)

Position: Midfielder

Hometown: Lombard, IL

High School/Club: Glenbard East H.S./Chicago Sockers

Urso joined the Dynamo straight out of High School and appeared in 16 games, scoring two goals with four assists during the 2008 & 2009 seasons. In 2007, Urso starred for the US National Team in the U-17 World Cup. This past season Kirk, led UNC Chapel Hill to a National Championship and was named to the NSCAA All-South Region 1^st team for his efforts.

Karo Okiomah (Dynamo, 2009-11, High Point)

Position: Forward

Hometown: Austin, TX

High School/Club: Hendrickson-Pflugerville H.S./Lonestar SC

Karo was a three player for the Dynamo having appeared in 39 matches, making him the third most capped player in Dynamo history, since joining the PDL in 2004. Karo scored 14 goals while assisting on another 10, putting him as fourth in points for the Dynamo in the PDL era. While at High Point, Karo was named a Third Team All-American, Big South Player of the Year, and was a four time All-Conference performer.

Michael Volk (Dynamo 2008, Virginia/Rutgers)

Position: Defender

Hometown: Bear, DE

High School/Club: Salesianum H.S./Kirkwood Premier

Volk appeared as a center back in seven matches for the Dynamo after transferring from Rutgers to Virginia. While at UVA, Volk was a two time captain and a mainstay in the back for the Cavaliers. Volk was named to the 2009 College Cup All-Tournament Team after leading UVA to a National Championship.

Daniel Roberts (Dynamo 2009-10, UNC Wilmington)

Position: Midfield

Hometown: Sugar Land, TX

High School/Club: Clements H.S./Houston Dynamo Academy

Daniel saw action in 18 matches as a midfielder during his two seasons with the Dynamo. After an injury plagued Sr. season Roberts was a three time All-Colonial Athletic Conference midfielder while playing for the Seahawks.

Today three former Carolina Dynamo players were selected as part of Major League Soccer’s 2011 Superdraft held at the NSCAA Convention in Kansas City Missouri. Hermann Trophy award winner, and 2011 Dynamo standout Andrew Wenger (Duke) was the #1 overall player selected by the Montreal Impact. Wenger who decided to forgo his Sr. season at Duke, had already signed a contract with Major League Soccer as part of Generation Adidas, and was simply waiting to find out which MLS Club would draft him. Chris Estridge (Indiana/Wake Forest) was chose as the 2^nd pick of the 2^nd round by Vancouver, as the 21^st overall pick. Warren Creavalle (Central Florida/Furman) was selected in the 2^nd rounds 18 selection by the Houston Dynamo, as the 37^th overall pick.

Including these three players the Dynamo have had 42 players drafted by Major League Soccer since joining the PDL back in 2004, and 61 drafted since Major League Soccer’s 1996 inaugural year.

Andrew Wenger (Dynamo 2010, Duke)

Position: Defender/Forward

Hometown: Lititz, PA

High School/Club: Warwick H.S./Pennsylvania Classics

Wenger (Duke) is the only player in ACC history to earn both Defender of the Year and Attacking Player of the Year in back to back seasons. Andrew was name 1^st Team All-ACC and 1^st Team All-American as a forward this past season, leading the ACC in scoring with 17 goals and eight assists totaling 42 overall points. Wenger split time as both a defender and a forward for the Dynamo in 2010, scoring two goals in eight matches

Chris Estridge (Dynamo 2009-10, Wake Forest/Indiana)

Position: Forward/Defender

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

High School/Club: Brownsburg H.S./Carmel United SC

Estridge during his two seasons with the Dynamo appeared in 13 games, scoring four goals while dishing out two assists. Chris transferred from Wake Forest to Indiana after his sophomore season. Estridge was named NSCAA All-American this past season.

Warren Creavalle (Dynamo 2010, Furman/University of Central Florida)

Position: Midfielder/Defender

Hometown: Acworth, GA

High School/Club: North Cobb H.S./North Atlanta Soccer Association

During the 2010 season Warren appeared in 10 matches for the Dynamo scoring one goal while anchoring the midfield. Warren transferred from Furman to Central Florida after his sophomore season, being named to the All-Conference USA 1^st Team both years at UCF. While at Furman, Creavalle was twice named to the All-Southern Conference 2^nd Team. Warren was also a member of the U-20 US national Team.

Both Karo Okiomah (High Point) and Kirk Urso (UNC Chapel Hill) are projected to be selected in Major League’s Soccer Supplemental l Draft being held Tuesday, January 17^th in New York.

Wenger Named College Soccer’s Best Player

Dynamo’s Andrew Wenger Wins College Soccer Heisman

St Louis, MO. 2011 Dynamo standout Andrew Wenger was named College Soccer’s Hermann Trophy Award Winner as the best player in college soccer this past season. Wenger was one of three finalists, being named the winner tonight at the Missouri Athletic Club. Wenger becomes the 2^nd Dynamo player in four years to win the award. Marcus Tracy was the other Dynamo player to win the award, being named college soccer’s best player back 2008. This past season with the Dynamo Wenger split his time on the field as both a defender and a forward. Andrew saw action in eight games scoring two goals for the South Atlantic Division Champions.

Wenger recently decided to forgo his Sr season at Duke to enter the Major League Soccer Superdraft as part of the Generation Adidas program.

12 Dynamo Players Receive All-Conference Awards

Led by Duke’s Andrew Wenger being named ACC Offensive Player of the Year

Greensboro, NC: Today the Carolina Dynamo announced that 12 players from the 2011 South Atlantic Division Championship Team earned all-conference honors at their respective colleges. Duke’s Andrew Wenger is the 1^st player in ACC history to have earned Defensive Player of the Year (2010) & now Offensive Player of the Year (2011). The Dynamo placed three players on All-ACC Teams, four players on All-Big South Teams, three on all Southern Conference Teams, one on the All-Atlantic -10 Conference Team, and one All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Team.
