Carolina Dynamo midfielder Corben Bone was named one of three finalists for the 2009 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, as announced on Friday.

The three finalists were chosen out of a group of 15 semifinalists. The winner of the award will be announced on January 8, 2010, in St. Louis, Mo., at the Missouri Athletic Club.

He also is in the top 10 in school annals in points with 66 career points.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – ESPN Soccernet reported Thursday afternoon Carolina Dynamo striker Cody Arnoux (right) is set to sign with Everton of the Barclays Premier League.
The Wilmington, NC native would become the second PDL player to join the club in 2009, following Ventura County Fusion midfielder Anton Peterlin to northwest England.
The two USL alumni trained with Everton in March of this year and impressed enough to earn contracts with the storied English club. They join U.S. National Team goalkeeper Tim Howard on Merseyside and will be with the team when they set off on their North American tour later this week.
The Toffees will play Argentine power River Plate in Edmonton on Saturday, July 25, before taking on the MLS All-Stars on Thursday, July 30 in Sandy, Utah.
Arnoux played for the Dynamo from 2007-2009, tallying 13 goals and five assists in 16 appearances for the longtime USL club. He last played for Carolina on July 1, a 1-0 victory against the Cary Clarets. The Dynamo were bounced from the PDL playoffs earlier this week, falling 3-1 to Cary in the Mid Atlantic first round match.
While at Wake Forest from 2006-2008, Arnoux played in 64 matches, recording 33 goals and 18 assists and was named a semifinalist for the M.A.C. Trophy in 2008.
GREENSBORO — For the fourth time this month, nearby rivals the Clary Clarets and the Carolina Dynamo squared off against each other, this time in first-round playoff action in the Premier Development League.
And for the fourth time the road team came out victorious, as the Clarets took advantage of two sloppy plays in front of the Dynamo goal to emerge with a 3-1 victory.
Cary advances to play Mid Atlantic Division winner Reading on Saturday while Carolina’s season came to a close.
The Dynamo (10-5-2) found itself shorthanded as Sheanon Williams, the team’s second-leading scorer was not with the team, as he was with the U-20 team in Argentina. Carolina also was without Eddie Abbabio, who was out with a sore foot.
So, the Dynamo played a more conservative game than it is used to playing, especially at home at Macpherson Stadium.
“You could tell we were a little light up top,” Dynamo coach Joe Brown said. “We couldn’t hold the ball very well and connect with our midfield. The energy for Cary was a little more intense than us. They were driving at us a little more and finding the seams. We just made mistakes. Both teams made mistakes on goal we just made one critical mistake at the end there that was quite unfortunate.”
It was a scoreless game in the first half, with the Clarets doing much of the attacking.
Cary (10-4-3) finally broke through in the second half at the 58-minute mark. A shot on goal was stopped by Carolina goalie Brock Duckworth, but he failed to control the ball, which allowed Zack Schilawski to hammer home the rebound.
The goal by the Clarets seemed to light a fire under the Dynamo, which began to attack with a greater sense of urgency. Carolina caught a break when Cary goalie Akira Fitzgerald came out to handle a ball he did not need to, which led to the first corner kick of the game for the Dynamo.
The corner led to an extended attack, which resulted in a header by Brian Shriver to knot the game at 1-1 at the 65-minute mark.
“The guys knew their season was over so they moved on a little bit quicker,” Brown said. “We didn’t test the keeper all night but he gave us a corner and we put one in.”
Momentum was firmly on Carolina’s side until another uncontrolled rebound led to a second easy goal for Cary, again by Schilawski, this one at 71 minutes.
The Dynamo was forced to scramble and take more chances and the Clarets added a third goal on a solid strike by William Schuler near the end of regulation.
GREENSBORO – The Carolina Dynamo needed just a draw Friday night against the Fredericksburg Gunners to claim their desired spot in the upcoming playoffs.
And though they kept things a bit tense with some early impotency in front of the visitor’s net, in the end their quality was evident with four second-half goals that sewed up second place in the division with a 4-0 win.
“Obviously we didn’t have enough recovery time from Wednesday (1-0 road win against Cary),” Dynamo coach Joe Brown said, describing that game as a “war.”
“But I think overall, they did what they had to do.”
The Dynamo entered its final regular-season game with 29 points — one behind second-place Cary, which had finished its season. Carolina needed just a draw to claim second in a tie-breaker and host a home playoff game against the Clarets (they won the season series with Cary 2-1).
Carolina missed an early chance just right of the post, which was a sign of things to come for the rest of the half. Over and over the Dynamo sprung a man free down the flanks or crossed dangerous balls into the box with no success.
Botched shots, tentative volleys and deflections from the keeper were the end results of those opportunities. Of particular note was a sequence in the 23rd minute when Karo Okiomah juked to the right touchline and crossed to an open Brian Shriver in the middle of the box, who shot wide left.
“We could’ve gone in the locker room four, five up. We just didn’t finish it off,” Brown said. “So we played a little bit to the level of the team that we played against.”
Fredericksburg had a good chance in the 26th minute when a man broke through for a clear look on goal, only to be stoned by Dynamo keeper Brock Duckworth.
“Obviously we wanna put ‘em away as early as we can,” midfielder Kirk Urso said. “And when you let chances go by like that, the longer the game goes on, obviously you get a little edgy.”
But after some ho-hum play to start the second half, the Dynamo finally claimed the goal in the 68th minute that virtually assured them of second place and the home game against Cary on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Urso took a pass near the top left of the box and danced to his right before firing a low shot that deflected off the keeper and into the bottom-right corner of the net.
“I got it from (Scott) Rojo down the line,” Urso said. “And I was going to look to curl it back post, but the defender stepped. So I just took a touch by him and after that I was just looking to strike it and get it on target.”
That opened up the offense, as Rojo — who Brown said was “fantastic on the flank” — put in a cross for a Sheanon Williams header goal in the 71st minute.
“We knew we just had to get one, and they would open up for us,” Brown said.
Urso then added a dipping bomb from far out, and substitute Eddie Ababio finished off the scoring in the 79th minute as the Dynamo ended their regular season on a high note.
“We’re a team that scores a lot of goals,” Brown said. “And I think that’s one of the tributes that I have to this group. They did a good job tonight finishing off.”
