Greensboro, NC: Major League Soccer’s Newest Expansion team the
Philadelphia Union will conduct their first ever preseason training camp
in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Carolina Dynamo and Greensboro Youth
Soccer will host The Philadelphia Union during their stay in Greensboro
coming up in February. “Greensboro Youth soccer and the City of Greensboro
are delighted to welcome the Philadelphia Union to our fine facility Bryan
Park, home of GYS and Macpherson Stadium home of the Carolina Dynamo”,
says Steve McBride Greensboro Youth Soccer’s Executive Director.
The Carolina Dynamo is pleased to welcome back former Carolina Dynamo and
midfielder for the Philadelphia Union Shea Salinas. Shea has played two
seasons in MLS and was acquired by Philadelphia from San Jose in this
year’s MLS expansion draft. “We are extremely excited to the Union have
selected Greensboro for their first ever training camp, our community
again has the opportunity to enjoy watching soccer at the highest level”,
says Joe Brown President & Head Coach of the Carolina Dynamo. In 2007,
with the Dynamo Salinas was an All-Conference Selection after scoring
seven goals with six assists.
The Union coming to town is also marks the homecoming of former UNC
Greensboro standout, Alejandro Moreno. Moreno the Union’s most
experienced player has played in some 200 games in his eight year MLS
career scoring 43 goals while assisting on 28 others. During his career
at UNC Greensboro Moreno finished as the school’s fourth leading scorer
with 155 points, on 65 goals and 25 assist.
The Philadelphia Union will play UNC Chapel Hill in an Exhibition Match at
Macpherson Stadium February 13th 2010. Kick-off is slated for 7:00.

Former Dynamo Standout Shea Salinas was recently selected by expansion side the Philadelphia Union in the Major League Soccer Expansion Draft. Salinas was drafted as the 15th overall pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes appearing in some 46 matches in his two seasons there. In 207 with the Dynamo, Salinas appeared in 16 games scoring seven goals while assisting on another six and was named to the All PDL 1st Team.
